[Presentation] Why I hate TypeScript

September 28, 2022

As part of the Burgas.dev September 2022 meetup I had the joy to give a talk on TypeScript and my experience with it over the years. Being an initial sceptic, coming from a long, rich and controversial history with JavaScript from it being “the thing I have to write to make a button disabled while a long-running beckground job is being executed” to “the thing I use on daily basis to build complex UIs” took some time to take in. Being kind of a dinosaur that used to try and develop serious applications with jQuery, mooTools, knockout.js, backbone.js … & CoffeScript made my case for being like “Why … why do they keep doing it to us”. Well, let’s put it that way … I had my reasons to not like the idea of TypeScript. But there was only one reason to hate it – I hate being wrong, and boy … I was wrong about it.

Admiring the time and effort you put into your website and in depth
information you provide. It’s good to come across a blog every once in a while that
isn’t the same unwanted rehashed material. Excellent read!

I’ve bookmarked your site and I’m adding your RSS feeds
    to my Google account.
